Yoke of Jesus or Yoke of Man, On Whose Side Are You?

Text: Matthew 11:30
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me... For my yoke is easy and my burden is light – Jesus”

It surprises me no more as most of the things predicted in the bible are coming pass in our life time and many are still going to come to pass.

The children of Israel demanded for king to rule over them they copied other nations by appointing a king to rule over them. Samuel delivered the totality God's instruction to them, he instructed them the advantages and misconception of appointing a king over them, but they. They have made up their mind to copy other nations of the world.

Israel Asks for a King (1 Samuel 8: 4-21)
4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead[b] us, such as all the other nations have.”
6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”
10 Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle[c] and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. 22 The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.

Are you copying other people today, their lifestyle, fashion, religion, and strange habits? Can it be said that our country, state and locality copying other foreign practices that pricks the heart of God?

• Are you asking for the Abominations from God?
• Does your prayer connote greed and selfishness?
• Is there a purpose and reason for that particular prayer and confessions?
• Do you have the habit of trying to please everybody and have everybody’s attention, ALL EYES ON ME Attitude!
• Is the ENDTIME spirit dictating your life or Holy Spirit?
• On whose side are you?

The saying “my yoke is easy and my burden is light” is part of a larger passage (Matthew 11:28–30), in which Jesus tells all who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. He isn’t speaking here of physical burdens. Rather, it was the heavy burden of the system of works that the Pharisees laid on the backs of the people that Jesus was offering to relieve. Later on in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus will rebuke the Pharisees for laying heavy burdens on the shoulders of the people (Matthew 23:4).

It is no longer new that certain local and foreign governments are banning Christian holidays. People yarn for democratic government outside the ruler-ship of God just after the order of Israelites, but the calamity that befell Israel after was greater than their expectation.

The “yoke of the Pharisees” is the burdensome yoke of self-righteousness and legalistic law-keeping, bible says our righteousness is a filthy rag before God. It has been said by biblical scholars that the Pharisees had added over 600 regulations regarding what qualified as “working” on the Sabbath. That is a heavy burden! Recall the story of the lawyer who asked Jesus what was the greatest commandment of the Law (Matthew 22:36). You can almost read between the lines of the man’s question: “What law, of all the laws we have, do I absolutely have to keep?”

On daily basis, our legislators are passing new laws using the tax payer’s money to carry out such humongous task but we failed to keep God’s Law which is the ultimate that guarantees peace of mind and discipline, if the laws made by man are sure and perfect why is our prison filled with inmates on daily basis? Our refusal to obey and keep God's Law brought about the yoke of the legislators upon the citizen of every nation.

Is it not better to obey than to sacrifice unnecessarily? Sacrifices made from making examples of law breakers and offenders have led to deterioration of our prisons, corruption, recklessness and breakdown of law and order. Does man really has laws and order outside the laws and ordinances of God?

Absolutely NO!

Jesus was saying that any kind of law-keeping is burdensome and amounts to a “heavy yoke” of oppression because no amount of law-keeping can bridge the gap between our sinfulness and God’s holiness. God says through the mouth of the prophet Isaiah that all of our righteous deeds are like a “polluted garment,” and Paul reiterated to the Romans that “no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law” (Romans 3:20). The good news is that Jesus promises to all who come to Him that He will give them rest from the heavy burden of trying to earn our way into heaven and rest from the oppressive yoke of self-righteousness and legalism. Jesus encourages those who are “heavy laden” to take His yoke upon them, and in so doing they will find rest for their souls. The yoke of Jesus is light and easy to carry because it is the yoke of repentance and faith followed by a singular commitment to follow Him. As the apostle John says, “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3).

This is what Jesus says in Matthew 11:30. His yoke is easy and His burden light. Now, we might think that there is really no difference between the commandments of Jesus and the Jewish Law. Isn’t the same God responsible for both? Technically speaking, yes. If anything, one might argue that the commands of Jesus are even more burdensome because His reformulation of the Mosaic Law in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5—7) actually goes above and beyond a mere outward conformity to the Law and deals instead with the inner person.

What makes Jesus’ yoke easy and His burden light is that in Jesus’ own active obedience (i.e., His perfect fulfillment of the Law of God), He carried the burden that we were meant to carry. His perfect obedience is applied (imputed) to us through faith, just as His righteousness was exchanged for our sin at the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our obedience to Jesus then becomes our “spiritual worship” (Romans 12:1).

Jesus sent the Comforter when He ascended into the heavens, has any of legislators sent any comforter to you lately? Furthermore, we are in dwelt by the Holy Spirit who works in our lives to mold us into the image of Christ, thereby making the yoke of Jesus easy and His burden light. The life lived by faith is a much lighter yoke and a much easier burden to carry than the heavy and burdensome yoke of self-righteousness under which some continually strive to make themselves acceptable to God through works.

Cast your burdens unto Jesus, not unto any man or system but Jesus alone.

God bless you.

To your success,

Pastor Kehinde Samuel Adegbolahan

The Lightning Beast of God

Dear Beloved,
Before you agree, like, confirm, share and comment about the Prayer point for the day please read and understand the little write up below !!!

*** 9 Facts About Getting Struck By Lightning ***

Thunder is the sound caused by lightning. Depending on the distance and nature of the lightning, thunder can range from a sharp, loud crack to a long, low rumble (brontide). The
sudden increase in pressure and temperature from lightning produces rapid expansion of the air surrounding and within a bolt of lightning.

Lightning is an unruly BEAST; heard to predict and filled with surprises. Lightning strikes kills and still killing.

If Lightning is an unruly beast then it is a Beast created by God Almighty and God can use or release His Beast to destroy His Enemies. Are you on the Lord's side?

Before you consider praying this prayer please consider and meditate about the following facts about the Beast of the Almighty God - a.k.a. Lightning.

1. Lightning strikes the United States about 25 million
times a year. Although most lightning occurs in the summer,
people can be struck at any time of year.

2. The idea of a lightning bolt finding and striking a person directly seems so random, but in fact, most people who were hurt or injured weren’t struck directly. People can fall victim to lightning striking a nearby object when the current jumps, as well as through conduction and ground
current.

3. Because ground current strikes affect a much larger area than the other causes of lightning casualties – the current travels over the surface of the ground – this type causes
the most lightning deaths and injuries. It's especially bad for livestock.

4. You don't have to be outside to be harmed by nearby lightning. You can be anywhere at anytime and anyplace.
5. Brain injuries are the more common injury – rather than burns – from lightning strikes. A dead brain is as good as a dead body!

6. Lightning strikes can create enduring lifelong discomfort because they cause nerve damage that makes the nerves misfire, which the brain reads as pain.

7. Majority of victims were male between the ages of 10 to 60; almost two thirds of them were engaged in outdoor leisure activities before being struck. Who is safe and protected? Are you?

8. To measure the distance of lightning, count the seconds between flash and thunder and divide by five; the number is how many miles the lightning is from you.

9. During thunderstorms, lightning can strike up to 10 miles away.

Prayers
Every Hordes of Philistines lying in wait for your soul, shall be be Struck Destructively by the Thunder and Lightning of God in the name of Jesus!

Every Evil Powers of your Father's House shall be Struck DEAD by the Lightning Beast of God in the name of Jesus!

Every Beast that Opposes You shall be Consumed by the Lightning Beast of God in the name of Jesus!

Your resounding AMEN !!!

Death in the Pot

Text: 2 Kings 4:38-41
And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him…

These young men were very nearly being poisoned. There was a famine in the land. Elisha came to Gilgal, where there was a school or college of young men in training for the sacred office of teaching others. Perhaps they were not skilled in the art of making the most of the vegetables which grew round about them, and were badly off for food. Elisha ordered his servant to put on the great pot, and make some pottage, or thick broth, for the hungry students. One of the young men went out to gather herbs for the purpose. There is a species of wild gourd or melon, called Cucumis prophetarum, which is common in the hill country, and which, when green, is sliced and boiled as a vegetable. But in the plains near Gilgal there is a plant extremely similar in appearance, but very different in its qualities. It was probably this - the colocynthus, or squirting cucumber - that is called the "wild gourd" in this chapter, and that the young men gathered and sliced down into the large pot of broth. When the pottage had been poured out, the young men began to eat of it, but, alarmed by its bitter taste, and probably suspecting then that poisonous herbs had been put into it, they cried out to Elisha, "O thou man of God, there is death in the pot! ' From this incident we may show that, while there is many an enjoyment, many a course of conduct, as pleasant to the eye and apparently as safe as those poisonous herbs appeared to be, yet there is need for caution. "There is death in the pot." "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death."

I. THIS MAY BE SAID OF FRAUDULENT PRACTICES.

"There is death in the pot." They nearly always begin in ways that seem perfectly safe and harmless. A man takes a little from his employer's desk, intending to return it again. But in nine cases out of ten he never returns it. He has touched what is not his own. The brand of the thief is on his brow and the curse of the thief is on his life. A young man who had been well brought up went from home to enter a bank in a large city. It was noticed, when he returned home, that he was beginning to dress very extravagantly. Each time he returned, some fresh extravagance was noted. He had already begun to spend money faster than he made it, for his salary was but small He was a smart young man, and would soon have got on well in his business, for he was a general favorite. But in a foolish hour he began to abstract some of the bank money. Little by little it went on, until his defalcations were very considerable. At last he was discovered, dismissed in disgrace from the bank, and it was only the intervention of an influential friend of his family that prevented his arrest. He broke his mother's heart, and brought down his father's grey hairs with sorrow to the grave. Fraudulent practices may be very often traced to the habit of gambling or betting. This was testified once more quite recently in Lagos by Mr. Vaughan, a magistrate, on a charge which came before him. There was a cashier in the receipt of a salary of N240, 000 a year, with prospects of advance. For eight or nine years he had filled his post creditably; but having got behind in his home expenses, he took a few Naira notes, and invested them in betting. As he was lucky, from taking few thousand Nairas he proceeded to hundreds of thousands; and having once started, he found that it was impossible for him to stop. He had always the hope of winning someday by a stroke of luck, and of thus being able to pay back again the sums which he had embezzled. But the "luck" never came, and he had at last to confess to his employers that he had defrauded them to the extent of N1m. This is only one of a multitude of cases in which prisoners have confessed that their robberies are entirely due to betting, 'I regard it as a curse to the country, betting houses offline and online.' Beware of dishonesty in any form. "There is death in the pot." It means death to a man's reputation, death to his worldly prospects, death to his peace of mind, for he must live in constant terror of discovery; and if he should escape discovery and judgment upon earth, how can he endure the thought of that day when the secrets of every life shall be disclosed, and when he shall stand condemned at the judgment-seat of God?

II. THIS MAY BE SAID ALSO OF PRACTICES OF IMPURITY.

"There is death in the pot." Temptations to it abound on every side. A corrupt press sows broadcast its demoralizing stories, with its suggestive pictures. The theatre, with its brilliant lights and strains of sweetest music - so often dedicated to the service of the devil - lures men into the way of the tempter, and into the den of the destroyer. It appears an innocent, harmless amusement. But "there is death in the pot." For one who comes unscathed and safe out of the theatre, there are scores who come out of it morally and spiritually the worse for its influence. Let men say what they like about the influence of the drama as a teacher of morals - and there is nothing to be said against the drama in itself - is there a single case of a man made better by going to the theatre? Where is he? Let him be produced. And even if one or two could be produced, what would they be as a testimony in favor of the theatre, compared to the testimony against it of the thousands it has ruined? "It might do good, but never did. Beware impurity in any form: Beware of impure books, impure songs, the impure jest, impure companions. "There is death in the pot." There is no sin that brings a more speedy or more terrible retribution in this life, than impurity of thought or deed. In a diseased body and a diseased mind it leaves its deadly marks. The impure man is a walking sepulcher. He is digging his own grave. Above all, he is destroying all hope of entering that pure and holy heaven where God is, and into which there shall in no wise enter anything that defileth.

III. THIS MAY BE SAID ALSO OF HABITS OF INTEMPERANCE.

"There is death in the pot." We need not take an extreme position on the subject of alcohol any more than on any other subject. But it is right that, as intelligent beings, with a reason and a conscience, as Christian men and women with God's Word to guide us, we should look facts in the face. Medical opinion is often resorted to by those who make too free in their use of alcohol. Let us hear the latest and best medical opinion on the subject. At the last meeting of the British Medical Association (Dublin, 1887), one of the most interesting papers was the report of a special committee which had been appointed by the association to inquire into the connection of disease with habits of intemperance. Here are some of the conclusions which the committee, after most careful investigation, arrived at:

(1) That habitual indulgence in alcohol beyond the most moderate amounts has a distinct tendency to shorten life, the shortening being on the average fairly proportional to the degree of indulgence;

(2) that the strictly temperate who have passed the age of twenty-five live on the average at least ten years longer than the intemperate." Is not this an important proof of our statement? "Habitual indulgence in alcohol beyond the most moderate amounts has a distinct tendency to shorten life." The man who drinks alcohol to any considerable extent is slowly killing himself. "There is death in the pot." If we turn from the assembly of doctors to the experience of everyday life, we get similar proofs. What terrible madness and infatuation drink causes! What fearful havoc it has made! What hopes it has blighted! What homes it has wrecked! What lives it has mined," There is death in the cup of intoxicating drink, as many a man has proved when it has been too late. But absence of wrong-doing will never make you fight.

As Elisha cast the meal into the pot, wholesome and nourishing food in place of the deadly poison, so be it yours to fill your mind with the teaching of God's Word, and your life with holy and useful deeds.

The great Teacher is Jesus Christ. Ask him to enter into your life, to purify your heart and your desires. Ask him for time and for eternity to save your soul.

Success at your finger tips

http://www.inc.com/jessica-zemple/success-is-at-your-fingertips-if-you-do-these-9-things.html

What is the Value of Life?

A little boy went to his old grandpa and asked, "What's the value of life?"

The grandpa gave him one stone and said, "Find out the value of this stone, but don't sell it." The boy took the stone to an Orange Seller and asked him what its cost would be.

The Orange Seller saw the shiny stone and said, "You can take 12 oranges and give me the stone." The boy apologized and said that the grandpa has asked him not to sell it. He went ahead and found a vegetable seller. "What could be the value of this stone?" he asked the vegetable seller. The seller saw the shiny stone and said, "Take one sack of potatoes and give me the stone." The boy again apologized and said he can't sell it. Further ahead, he went into a jewellery shop and asked the value of the stone.

The jeweler saw the stone under a lens and said, "I'll give you 50 million for this stone." When the boy shook his head, the jeweler said, "Alright, alright, take 2 gold necklace, but give me the stone." The boy explained that he can't sell the stone.

Further ahead, the boy saw a precious stones' shop and asked the seller the value of this stone. When the precious stones' seller saw the big ruby, he lay down a red cloth and put the ruby on it. Then he walked in circles a

round the ruby and bent down and touched his head in front of the ruby. "From where did you bring this priceless ruby from?" he asked. "Even if I sell the whole world, and my life, I won't be able to purchase this priceless stone. Stunned and confused, the boy returned to the grandpa and told him what had happened.

"Now tell me what is the value of life, grandpa?" Grandpa said, "The answers you got from the Orange Seller, the Vegetable Seller, the Jeweler & the Precious Stones' Seller explain the value of our life...

You may be a precious stone, even priceless, but people will value you based on their financial status, their level of information, their belief in you, their motive behind entertaining you, their ambition, and their risk taking ability.

But don't fear, you will surely find someone who will discern your true value." You are Unique and No one can Replace you...

Hallelujah!!!

A Piece To Ponder

Never since I was born, I have not seen many people arrived late to the airport when the person is travelling. In fact, when the plane is taking off at 11:00pm, the person will be at the airport by 7:00pm, wow!

That's how much people value travelling overseas. But on a Sunday morning when Church has long begun that's when you see men and women with 'swag' gliding like pregnant serpents to Church, they know they are late, but because they have a new armani suit on and the latest designer's bag, they want everyone to see it. Church starts at 7:00am, but people will come at 9:00am, why? They think praise and worship is for the uncivilized.

Just take the test to call them on Monday at 5:30am, you'll realise they are already on their way to work and some will be there already. Know this today, anytime you go to Church one minute late, you have NOT attended Church at all.

There is a register of God, where angels record the name of those who come on time, and you'll be surprised that in Heaven they will tell you, you never attended Church.

If Christ is saying 'where two or three are gathered, I'm in their midst', you think He comes late?

The time you give is the time He keeps.

What does it mean to arrive late to Church?

1) Disrespect to Christ

2) Betrayal of Christ

3) Disregard to the Church and the Pastor

4) Interruption of an eternal Programme

Now consider all these, and tell me they are not sin.

Remember,

Eternity's Flight is not a flight taking you to overseas, it's a flight taking you to Heaven.

Don't miss it!

There are a lot of people who are planning to go to Church late this Sunday.

Let this message get your attention.

God bless!

Most of us are victims!

Good day

To your success

The Making of a Family Minister

God, in this present time, is in need of family ministers, people that can build their homes and the church. Men that are first successful husbands and father then pastors. God wants our ministry to start from Judea. Luke 24:47.
Recent research shows that ten leading minister in Nigeria today are successful family men.

Types of Ministers
1.      Celibate Ministers (1. Cor. 7:27-40)
2.      Ministry Ministers
3.      Family Ministers

Types of Marriages
1.      Retrogressive Marriages
2.      Executive Marriages
3.      Olympic Marriages
4.      Electronic Marriages
5.      People's Marriages
6.      Parasitic Marriages
7.      Rocky Marriages
8.      War Veteran Marriages
9.      Super Master Marriages
10.    Friendship Marriage

Old Testament Family Ministers
1.      Adam
2.      Noah (Gen. 7:6-7)
3.      Moses (Exo. 4:18-20)
4.      Joshua (Jos. 24:15)
5.      Abraham

1.      Eli (1. Sam. 3:11, Matt. 19:3-9)
2.      Paul (1. Cor$ 7, Eph. 5, Col. 3:17-22)
3.      Peter
4.      Phillip (Acts. 21:9)
5.      Aquila (Acts 18:2-26, Rom. 16:3, Cor. 16:19, 2 Tim. 4:19

A Big Question!
Are you a family minister or a modern day family failure?

Facts
-        Your family is what you make it to be
-        Your marriage is the picture of your character
-        Marriage is like a farm, if you fail to cultivate it, it will grow weed
-        If you cannot lead a home successfully, you cannot lead a church to where God wants it to be
-        No matter your success in the ministry, you are a total failure if you are a disaster out at home
-        If you fail to make your wife happy, God is angry with you
-        Bad marriage will affect your credibility and your ministry
-        If your wife do not see you as a pastor, then you are not one
-        You are either the head of your family or the headache

How to become a family minister

1.      Strike a balance between ministry and marriage
2.      Develop uncommon love for your wife
3.      Get to know the difference between parenting and parenthood
4.      Become a man of vision. Know where you are going and share with your wife. If the head is headless. The follower will not follow
5.      Provide adequately for your family. If you want your wife to call you HONEY, give her MONEY, Provide physically, emotionally, financially, morally for your home.
6.      Single ministers should pray very well before choosing. Women are many but wives are scarce. Three types of minister's wife: Caterpillar wives (Jezebel), Passive wives, Ministerial wives (Priscilla) Prov. 19:14
7.      Commit the jeart of your wife to the ministry
8.      Set your priority right (God, Wife, Children and Ministry)
9.      Honor your wife publicly. Appreciate her little efforts and she will be challenged to do more
10.    Involve her in the ministry - Visitation, Women Leadership, Sunday School, Bible Study, Evangelism, Counselling, Children Church, Youth Ministry, Marriage Ministry and Ministrations. Make sure your wife is not idle, anybody that is idle may cuddle the devil
11.    Be her husband not just her pastor - What you cannot do for members, do for her. Cuddle her, touch her, kiss her, pray with her, joke with her, send love notes, romantic text messages and spoil her with a little with gift
12.    Satisfy her bedroom desires. Never be a Russian in the bedroom. Your wife needs about 20minutes of "Laying of Hands" before any "Combine Service". Be a lover in the bedroom, not a horse rider, inform your wife ahead if you must fast (1. Cor. 7:3-5), sex with your wife is not a sin, it is holy and righteous, it does not destroy annointing, in the bedroom you are a lover and a husband, you are not just a pastor
13.    Create interest in your wife's business, family, health, fear, joy and plan. In sickness be by her, never frget that she needs more than paracetamol, she needs "Kissquine, Lovequine, Touchdol and Parasitahug"
14.    Understand body signs. If she refuses to take tablets or say amen to your prayer, know that she needs more than casting and binding, she needs you, she needs your touch, attention, affection and your care
15.    Celebrate her birthday lavishly, understand the mood of a woman, they are female which means a FEELING-FEMALE, a male with strong feelings. Be an aggressive lover, buy her gifts, tell her you love her, giver her your attention
16.    Have children you can adequately cater for. Family planning is not abortion, it should be done. Most pastors are still raising between 6 and 8 children while their salary ranges between N18,000 and N30,000. Let your wife work to supplement the family income, it is not compulsory for jer to be on full time unless the church is paying her. Raise smaller family for a better effect if your wife is too busy with your "battalion" she may not have time fir ministerial work
17.    Let there be togetherness. Be proud of her, be faithful to her, support her in the kitchen, and with the baby. Pray together, talk together, sleep together in the same room, on the same bed, stroll togetjer, sit, eat, minister, study, travel together for ministrations and dress together, holiness should not make you a romantic disaster
18.    Develop leadership skill, crises management. Let the Lord take the glory in your family
19.    Never allow third party into your marriage. (Friends, Families, Church Members etc are all third partner)
20.    For God's sake, rest. Most pastors don't rest, please do rest. If you fail to rest you are putting your life "under arrest"

To your success!

DEAR PARENTS, PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU, YOUR CHILD, AND YOUR FAMILY USES SOCIAL MEDIA!!!

Calvary greetings to you. Galatians 2:18 "For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor"

Never go back to your vomit again. Think about those things you abandoned or pulled down before and you vowed never to rebuild them again. They are known as Stylish Sins.
As a parent, an educator and a minister of the Most High God, this particular topic is near and very dear to my heart. Every week that passes, the social media landscape changes, and keeping up with it can be a nightmare. I ask that if you find value in this article please share with others so that we may spread the word about not only keeping our children safe online but ourselves also.

If you’re a parent, you have to keep up with it. You have to be “savvy” enough to know what social networks your kids are using. You can’t use the excuse “I don’t understand this stuff!” (for example: Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Vine, Google+, Ask.fm, and Tumblr) If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s time to start doing some research. You don’t have to be an expert or guru, but you should know how these networks operate. These are the platforms your teenagers or soon to be teenagers are probably using right now.

Here is some advice to get you started on educating yourself and your children on how to use social media safely:
1. Teach your child about respect. Respecting themselves and respecting others. If you stop them from being on Twitter or Facebook they’ll just move to WhatsApp or Instagram or SnapChat or Google+ or you get the point. Give them the skills to make good decisions first and foremost.

2. Don’t use social media to humiliate your child. It may be a temporary fix to get your child to stop making poor decisions but the potential long term ramifications definitely outweigh the short term.

3. Teach your child that whatever they put online is permanent (this includes texting! SMS) Private is not always Private. The photo they post online is not owned by them anymore. It’s owned by Facebook, Instagram, and Google, etc. and they can do what they want with it (so can that bully who happens to be a friend of a friend on Facebook which gives them access to certain photos your child posts).
As many that have falling prey to friends that tags them to nude pictures online, it is high time you spent quality time with the security settings on Facebook, never permit 100% tagging access to your friends, scrutinize every picture and stories you are tagged in.

4. Some day your kids may apply to a high school or college or submit a resume for their dream job and I can assure you they will most likely be researched online which is the normal practice in Nigeria. Ask yourself, what will their impression of my child be when their done? Therefore, teach them to also share their accomplishments like academic awards, sports awards, volunteering, community events, school club activities etc. online when they are involved in them.

5. Lead by example. Practice what you preach if you want them to navigate their digital life safely. Don't do contrary to what you preach, never share or upload nude pictures, rapes or terrifying pictures, I wonder who you are trying to please with it.

6. Explain to your child that communicating verbally is completely different than communicating online. If you happen to say something verbally that you later regret you can fix this over time. If you happen to post something online that you later regret that content may never disappear and you may never be able to fix it.

7. Tell your child to never take seductive photos and text them to his/her “boyfriend” or “girlfriend”. It’s incredibly risky and foolish because at some point his/her boyfriend/girlfriend probably won’t be the only person to see those photos. ‘Sexting’ should be a subject discussed before any smartphone is purchased. All this applies to pictures of under-age drinking, doing drugs, or any other illegal activity!

Take a look at these examples:
a. A student at High School was arrested and suspended from school for posting a fully nude photo of a local 15-year-old high school. The victim’s photo had originally been sent to her boyfriend in confidence, but leaked to this boy, which then made it available on Instagram.

b. Authorities say a trio opened several accounts on Instagram, and before those accounts were shut down, they had posted more than 50 photos of nude and partially clothed girls on social media for all the world to see. Concerned about the photos they had come across. Police say the victims in the case willfully took the pictures, but did not know they were being used for this purpose.

c. Be present and aware of what your children are doing online. Don’t give your tween a laptop/iPad/iPod and let them go to their room for the night if you don’t plan on keeping an eye on them. Know what apps they have. Know their password to these devices. You have to find a balance between trusting your child and parenting. If you don’t give them some space they’ll never learn to make good decisions (even if that means making a mistake here and there) and if you’re completely oblivious to their online activities you’re making it far too easy for them to potentially make an unrepairable mistake.

9. Teach your child not to interact/follow people they don’t know in person (exceptions: sports stars, celebrities, etc. who are positive role models).

10. Review the privacy settings of each app with your child. You’ll probably want to make sure that they’re not sharing their current location because of kidnappers and ritualists.

11. Start this journey into social media by making your teenager responsible for their hardware as well. Paying for their own smartphone and monthly bill will quickly teach a teen responsibility and accountability. No work, no money, no phone. It’s how the real world works. [As a parent, I have a N3,000 pay-as-you-go phone as a back-up in case a teenager hasn’t pay a bill.] Too young to work? Then it’s the parents device and all time-limits, usage rules, passwords are completely dictated by the parent.

12. Make sure your child knows to come to you with a problem right when it occurs, so you can help fix it. Things can get out of hand quickly online, as pictures, texts and posts can go viral within hours! Whether something is happening on their accounts, or an a friends’ account they need to know to report it to you. Let them know coming to you is their only option and that you will always listen.

13. Trust goes as far as they trust their friends! ‘Private’ or “Protected’ accounts give teens a false sense of security, since those ‘trusted friends’ might post pictures of you, tag you, or leave accounts open and accessible to parents or worse, peers. This is where ‘Don’t say ANYTHING you wouldn’t say out loud’ applies most!

What if your child asks you if they can get a Facebook, Twitter, Google, Instagram, etc. account?
Don’t start with NO! You want to start this journey with them knowing you’re there for them. That doesn’t mean you have to say yes either but hear them out first. Start with questions like these:
1. Why do you want a Facebook account? They’ll probably answer with something like “Because ALL my friends have one”.

2. Which of your friends are on Facebook? Hopefully they tell you. If not maybe they’re not ready to be on social media.

3. Are these the only people you would be friends with on Facebook? This might be a good time to talk about only interacting with people they know in real life.

4. What do you know about Facebook? They may say something like “You talk to friends and share photos”.

5. What kind of photos would you be sharing? My guess is they’ll say something like “I don’t know. Me and my friends.” This is a great time to talk about what types of photos are appropriate to share online and why.

After you’ve had this conversation with your child you need to make a decision as to whether they’re ready for social media or not. If you’re on the fence about letting them you can always say “Yes, but under one condition. You have to share your password with me. If you’re being honest about why you want to be on Facebook then you have nothing to hide from me”. You can also tell them you’ll only use the password if you feel like they’re hiding something from you or not using the network responsibly. A written agreement between you and your teen might serve as a reminder of rules that are not to be broken and consequences that will happen if they are. Refer back to it often and review the rules when appropriate.

Apps/websites that you need to be monitoring if your teens/tweens are using them:
Remember it’s not necessarily about the technology. It’s more about how the technology is being used. However, some of these apps/websites encourage risky behavior.
1. Tinder – This app lets your kid “like” people who are as close as 1 mile from their location. If the other person “likes” your child back then they’ll be able to chat and give their location. This app is known for “hook ups”.

2. Ask.fm – This is a question and answer social site that allows people to ask and answer anonymously (the bullying possibilities are endless).

3. Whisper -This website allows users to post “secrets” and photos anonymously. It also allows whispering to other users anonymously as well. Here is their tagline: “Express Yourself – Share Secrets – Meet New People.”

4. SnapChat – The app that supposedly allows users to send a photo that will disappear “forever” after 30 seconds. The problem is that it’s easy to take a screenshot, which makes that statement ridiculously untrue.

5. Burn Note – Similar to SnapChat, this app’s number one priority is privacy, which teens are drawn to, but makes bullying, sexting, etc.. easier to participate in.

6. Let’s Date – Similar to Tinder, this app starts you off as anonymous to all but once you tell other users “let’s date” and once reciprocated you’re no longer anonymous to them.

7. Kik Messenger – I think I will let this next quote sum up this app:
If you grab every new app out there that you hear the kids & teenagers like, then you probably have KIK, an app extremely popular among the young crowd. While the messenger app is simple and often fun to use, with meme-making features and the ability to add videos and images to chats, it’s also full of random sex-spammers.

8. WhatsApp – Recently purchased by Facebook. This app allows users to chat, send messages, send photos, join groups, etc…

9. Slingshot -Teens love this app because in order for you to view a video or photo another user sends you have to send them one as well. Your kid can easily be found by random people on this app.

10. Chatroulette – A website that matches you randomly with another user so that you can video chat with them. According to a poll – 1 in 8 spins yielded someone apparently naked, exposing themselves or engaging in a sexual act.

Parents should keep all their children off the site because it’s much too dangerous for children. It’s a predator’s paradise. This is one of the worst faces of the Internet that I’ve seen. It’s disconnecting human relationships rather than connecting them.

There is a new “it” app that your child will be downloading all the time. It’s extremely important to teach them about making good decisions and the consequences that come with making bad ones. Just because they might be “anonymous” on said social network doesn’t excuse them from being a good person who is respectful of others.

Remember the book of Galatians 2:18 "For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor"
A visit to deliverance ground will give you an eye opener and understanding of this write up. A glance of a nude picture online can lead you to a perpetual or everlasting torture of your soul, caged and extortion of your virtues, continuous flash back and memory of pornographic images.

Do not allow your carelessness, busy schedules and job to take away your rest of mind and peace. Remember how you prayed fervently to have those children as a gift from God, why allow the technology of today to destroy their future, not only theirs but including yours. If you have spent your youthful years on the mountain praying for fruit of the womb, will you spend your old age at the mountain again for the salvation and deliverance of such children again? Then what is your gain?

To many out there who are still in the habit of sharing porn, nude pictures and orgy scenes, you playing with fire, abominable fire that consumes the soul of its victim without pity. Jesus is calling you, He is still in the business of deliverance, give your life to Him today because tomorrow is always LATE!

Remember the book of Galatians 2:18 "For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor"
